  5. THE BEATLES IN THEIR OWN WORDS – Super Deluxe Edition – Episode 8: ‘Let It Be’ to ‘Abbey Road’ 1969

This Oral History should be listen to, preferably combined with the Red aka. ‘1962 – 1966’ and Blue aka. ‘1967 – 1970’ compilation double-albums, issued originally in 1973 by Apple. Most of the songs included on these albums are presented here in an alternative version: demo, outtake or live recording. Most songs not included on these albums are presented in their master take version, as used for the B-side of official singles and the original albums in the UK.

We used some original 1987 cd-mixes, however in most instances the 2009 remixes, but for ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and ‘The Beatles’ aka. ‘the White Album’ the new Giles Martin-50th Anniversary remixes of resp. 2017 and 2018 were used.

All studio sessions were recorded at EMI Recording Studios, Abbey Road, St. Johns Wood, London, except if indicated otherwise.

Data about take-numbers are from the 2005 Bounty Books-edition of Mark Lewisohn’s definitive ‘The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions – The Official Story of the Abbey Road Years 1962 – 1970’, originally published by Hamlyn/Octopus Publishing Group in 1988. This was cross-checked with the Beatles Music History – website : http://www.beatlesebooks.com/ , and some other sources, such as the recording notes of the 50th Anniversary SDE’s.

All songs are in italics. All comment are in roman (straight). Important milestones are in bold.
