Win vrijkaarten Parquet Courts / Ulrika Spacek (Trix)
Ulrika Spacek én Parquets Courts, 2 bands die dit jaar in onze “heavy rotation”-playlist staan, spelen op dinsdag 21 juni samen in Muziekcentrum Trix. Mooie affiche! En nog toffer, we mogen hier vrijdag 10/06 vrijkaarten voor weggeven bij Signaal/Ruis. Luisteren dus, 8pm, op Radio Scorpio!
De New Yorkse (garage) postpunkers van Parquet Courts debuteerden in 2011 met ‘American Specialties’, dat enkel op cassette verscheen. In 2013 volgde hun doorbraakalbum ‘Light Up Gold’ dat kon rekenen op heel wat lovende kritieken in de internationale muziekpers. Nog geen jaar later kwam opvolger ‘Sunbathing Animals’ uit. Opnieuw een erg aanstekelijk en catchy album vol bruisende postpunksongs. Hun vierde album ‘Content Nausea’ liet verassend genoeg een radicaal andere sound horen. Minder felle postpunk, meer lofi slacker-rock en dissonante noisepop. Maar nog steeds even urgent als het oude werk.
Op 8 april is de band terug met een gloednieuw album: ‘Human Performance’ (eerste single ‘Dust’ kan je hier alvast beluisteren: http://bit.ly/1VBKdm7). Het label Rough Trade omschrijft de plaat als ambitieus en het meest toegankelijke werk van de band tot nu toe. Reikhalzend uitkijken, we do! Op 21 juni keihard uit onze bol gaan, we will!Ulrika Spacek is een Britse experimentele rockband opgericht in Berlijn door Rhys Edwards en Rhys Williams. Toen ze verhuisden naar Londen kwam Ulrika Spacek in een stroomversnelling. Ze organiseerden een reeks concertavonden onder de naam ‘Oysterland’ en maakten zelfs een serie tentoonstellingen. De muziek van Ulrika Spacek laat zich typeren als een combinatie van hypnotiserende jazz, Verlaine/Malkmus-achtig gitaarwerk, melancholie en heel veel opwinding. Hun debuutalbum ‘The Album Paranoia’ verscheen eerder dit jaar en moet fans van Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine en Deerhunter zeker kunnen bekoren.

oppe Behaeghe van het jonge Gentse boekingskantoor Live fast Die Young aan de tand voelde, gaf hij ook fijntjes mee dat het evenzeer Gentse YOUFF toch een van de grotere talenten waren waarmee hij al gewerkt had. Na een klein jaar polsen bij de band, zijn Alex en Manu klaar voor een vrijdagavonds interview. Maar vooral met een ijzersterke nieuwe EP ‘MEH’ die het duo komende vrijdag komt voorstellen. Bereid je alvast voor, MEH kan je immers voor een weinig in huis kan halen via de bandcamppagina).
[Breaking]: Bovendien maak je tijdens de uizending kans op duotickets voor het “exclusieve” Matmos-concert in België, meer bepaald Zaal België te Hasselt en wel nu zaterdag!
Vorige vrijdag legden we ons en uw lot in handen van Glen Steenkiste (Hellvete, Sylvester Anfang, Brahmen Raag,…). Met alle genoegen trouwens: Het werd een mixtape geworden om vingers/duimen van af te likken, helemaal de herbeluistering waard.

Vrijkaarten Bleached / Dead High Wire / MOAR
Zaterdagavond, 28 mei, nog geen plannen? En zin in een avond onvervalste rock ’n roll? Dan kan je bij Signaal/Ruis nog meedingen voor enkele vrijkaarten voor de show van Bleached, Dead High Wire en MOAR in Het Bos in Antwerpen. Luisteren maar, vrijdag 27/05, 8pm op Radio Scorpio.
BLEACHED (us)
Los Angeles-based sister duo Jennifer and Jessie Clavin knew things were going to be different for their band Bleached sophomore LP ‘Welcome The Worms’. Not only had they managed to charm world renowned producer Joe Chiccarelli (Morrissey, The Strokes, Elton John) to join the sisters and their bassist Micayla Grace in the studio, but Jen and Jessie had been crawling out of their own personal dramas.
While emotionally spinning, they dove head first into music. The three girls spent time writing the 10 song LP at a remote house in Joshua Tree, away from the distractions of the city. Other times Jen and Jessie worked alone, just like when they were teenaged punk brats playing in their parents’ garage, imitating their heroes The Slits, Black Flag and Minor Threat. They drew inspiration from the iconic hits of everyone from Fleetwood Mac to Heart to Roy Ayers. The result is an ambitious rock record with a new found pop refinement that somehow still feels like the Shangri-Las on speed, driven forward in a wind of pot and petals, a wall of guitars in the back seat.

Name of the biweekly radioshow hosted by bmom. Sounds like jazz but happens to be the project of two crusaders in search of an eclectic experience. They envision an inspirational way of doing that with great interest for what radio means today. For Scorpio Labo they will make a live recording of an oorvijg-session together with you. Don’t forget to take your house-jacking little sister over, she might love this.
SYNIK & ALIA
These young and promising selectors are conquerring the airwaves with their radioshow Klankkultuur. They complete each other in an intriguing way and will get you dancing right away with their jazzy, funky old school vibe.
CAPTAIN I & THE E
A duo that has been broadcasting their show Stay Fresh Hip Hop Adventures for three years now. They combine guestmixes and cypher sessions with fresh tracks and dusty old school grooves.

Vrijkaarten Julia Holter & Julianna Barwick op Les Nuits
Dat we bij Radio Scorpio een serieuze boon voor Julia Holter hebben wist je vast al. Met alle vier albums wist ze De Beste 106 te bereiken, waarvan maar liefst drie de top 20 haalden. Sterrenplaten wist haar in 2013 naar aanleiding van Loud City Song te interviewen, en mag voor haar passage tijdens Les Nuits Botanique op dinsdag 7 juni ook vrijkaarten verdelen onder de luisteraars.
Opwarmer voor die avond is trouwens niemand minder dan Julianna Barwick, eerder ook al geïnterviewd in Sterrenplaten. Live luisteren is dus de boodschap, dan kan je ook een stukje Uncanny Valley festival en een stukje uit de nieuwe Hiele meepikken. Vervolgens kan je ook afzakken naar Scorpio Labo op het Stuk Eindfeest.
De (nog even) jongste Sterrenplaten kan je hieronder herbeluisteren, met muziek van Downtown Boys, 75 Dollar Bill, Autechre, Jim O’Rourke & Fennesz en meer.
